SEPTEMBER 2011 NEWSLETTER
General Manager - Diane Schafer...I want to start off by saying and I think I speak for most, "Another Fantastic Marina Day at Fox Chapel". Regardless of everything that goes into hosting this event, what truly turns this day into such a success, is you-The Boaters. With that said, I do still want to send out some special thanks to Monica and Tracey for all their hard work organizing this large event. To all the volunteers who helped behind the scenes prior to, during and after the event. The donations from our sponsors help make it possible for us to have the additional activities for the children. Last, but certainly not least, Baja Bar & Grill who took care of the food and beverages for the entire day. Bimi, Jim and the entire Baja staff did a fantastic job catering such a large event, the food was excellent and never stopped coming until the last boater was full!!!!
Keep your eye on the mail!! Within the next several weeks we will be sending out our Haul-Out and Lease Renewal Packets. Both contain time sensitive material, so please don't put off opening and completing the necessary documents.
I want to thank our Dock Masters for a great season. Luke, Jeff & Jeff are always around over the weekends to help assist you and maintain any issues that arise in the marina. Another job Well Done!!
Keep your eye out for our winter events such as Santa's Breakfast, the Red Sweater Party and all of our Boat Shows at www.foxchapelmarine.com .
Even though this is our final Newsletter for this season, it doesn't mean that the boating season over. Take advantage of the Fall boating in this area which usually offers beautiful weather and scenery. And don't forget to frequent the marina during the fall and winter months. We are still here year 'round and continuing to make improvements to better serve you!
Sales Crew - Ron Cook & Ed Steinhauser...Well, another wonderful boating season is coming close to the end but that doesn't mean the deals on boats are! We have quite a lot of shows planned for this fall, starting with the Costco Road Shows. At the Costco Road Shows we will be displaying both new Sea Rays and Boston Whalers for two weeks both at Cranberry September 28th - October 2nd and Robinson October 12th-16th.
As always we are open seven days a week at the marina and have been receiving new 2012s weekly, boy do they look nice! Great new interiors and options are making the Sea Rays standout from the rest of the crowd even more than ever. Just like the leaves in the trees, new & used inventory is ever changing so please feel free to check out our website for the most current and up to date list of our boats in stock at www.foxchapelmarine.com and don't forget we are the area's premier brokerage house. There are many brokers in the area that make all kinds of promises and offer different gimmicks to get your listing but bottom line there isn't a place close that sells more boats for more money than us! This means more money for you so if you're thinking about a new boat or just about getting out of boats come in to talk with us and let us show you what we can do for you!
Service Department - Roger Peterson...I would like to welcome M. Ray Svestka as a new addition to our service team. Ray will be handling the duties of service writing and warranty administrator. What a great summer we had this year! It's hard to believe it's time to make all the preparations for the off season already, but we have some tips to help make it a little easier this year. The 2011 Fox Chapel Marine winterization and haul out informational packets will soon be mailed out. Please fill out and return as soon as possible to allow proper scheduling. As always, if you want to schedule any additional winter work, simply add a note to your form or drop us an email to service@foxchapelmarine.com. If you do not receive a copy, or if you need another copy, just give us a call and we will be happy to mail, fax, or email a copy to you. If you have any questions or need additional information, call Roger, Ray or Pat and we will be happy to assist you.
Important tips-Fully charge your batteries before your scheduled haul out date to save time and the expense of jump start fees at haul out. Most storage facilities prefer fuel tanks to be ¾ full during storage, so fill your tank and add gas stabilizer to prevent fuel related problems in the spring. Also-make sure there is a set of keys for your boat in the service department.
This is a really good time to think about all the little items that need attention on your boat. Just make a note of anything you want checked out on your winterization form and we can get you an estimate on any off season work. For the best protection of your boat's running gear, have the oil and gear lube changed before putting the boat into storage. This prevents any dirt or moisture from sitting on your gears or bearing surfaces over the long storage period and your engine will be ready to run as soon as boating weather returns in the spring.
The service department is offering end-of-season specials on boat bottom painting, blister barrier coat treatments and gel coat repairs when scheduled as winter service work this year. Winter paintwork is now made possible due to advances in the technology and formulation of new boat bottom paints. These advances have removed the traditional time constraints and negate the previous requirement of re-launching soon after painting, thus allowing boat owners to now take advantage of off season service specials. Boat owners should know that proper maintenance of bottom paint is the first line of defense in the protection of the integrity of your hull and protecting your investment. Today's new bottom paints are more environmentally friendly, longer lasting and some have slime proof specialization which is perfect for our fresh waters. Whether your hull needs soda blasting, blister repairs and barrier coat application, or just a light sanding as preparation, our trained service staff can provide whatever service your boat needs. For more information, or to make reservations for your winter work, please call Roger at 412-967-1500 or email service@foxchapelmarine.com.
Shrink Wrap-Service... Choose wisely for overall winter protection¿.. Shrink wrap offers the best protection available against weather damage for your boat during storage. It will shield your boat against sun, rain, snow, sleet, leaves and bird droppings and unlike tarps, properly installed shrink wrap will not flap around or chafe your boat in windy conditions. If access during storage is needed, zippered doors can be easily installed. Shrink wrap vents prevent excess moisture from accumulating during storage, but moisture absorbers and mildew control bags are still recommended to keep your boat mildew free in the off season. For the best possible protection for your boat this winter, schedule your shrink wrap with our service department and enjoy a worry free winter experience.
Ship Store & Parts - Pat Taylor...Winterization supplies are in stock now at Fox Chapel Marine's Ship Store. We have everything you need for winterizing including potable antifreeze, oil, oil filters, gear lube, gasoline stabilizer, and fuel filters. We even have tie down straps, moisture absorbers, and every kind of cleaning supply needed to put your boat away safe and clean for winter layup. Every seasoned boat owner knows the most critical item after engine winterizing is mildew prevention. This year we are pleased to offer Kanberra Gel, a product that rids the air of mold, bacteria, fungi and even some viruses, naturally and without any chemicals, and when used during storage, it will prevent mold growth and odors.
Give the gift of Boating Cheer this year and shop for your favorite boater at our ship store. You'll find something special here for everyone on your list. Fox Chapel Yacht Club polo's, hats and sweatshirts make great stocking stuffers that even land lubbers will appreciate. We've got cool tubes and towables for family fun on the water. Places to go - Ray McDonald¿Summer nights are great, but I love a fire on cool fall nights! Mountain Pies & S'Mores is a must if you plan a river trip to one of the islands! The leaves will be changing soon along with more cool crisp air. So, don't shrink wrap your boat too soon, there is plenty of boating left! If you want any suggestions on a trip, stop by A Dock to see me.
I would again like to say it's been a pleasure getting to know some of the new faces here and hearing all about your adventures at and around Fox Chapel Marine.
Dockmasters-Luke, Jeff & Jeff¿ A Big Hello from your Dock Masters! It was nice to see you all at the Marina Day event. Hope you had a great time just as much as we did! So much time and effort goes into a day like that! Thanks to everyone that helped us strip the husks of corn, all 840 ears!!
As we draw this summer to a close I would like to remind you that you need to pick up all of your belongings, hoses, carpets, chairs, umbrellas and so forth. We cannot save anything for you; if it is left behind, we will have no choice but to get rid of it. Please check your dock boxes and make sure that if they are going to stay, you must have them screwed down. We will not be responsible if it blows away or gets bumped in during dock swing. We are now working on dates for dock swing. Please make sure that all items are removed prior to that date. If you own a Jet Ski please have it removed by the weekend of October 15-16. If it is not removed then we will remove them and a work order will be made out and charged to your account.
Well it has been a great summer of boating and thanks to all that have made our transient Dockers feel like they belong. Thank you for all of your cooperation to ensure the safety of yourselves and others. As always, if there is anything we can help with please let us know.
Hope to see everyone this upcoming season! From your Dock Masters, Luke Yialouris, Jeff Decker, Jeff McFall
Fox Chapel Pool - Tracey Maxwell¿I hope that you enjoyed your membership to the pool and took advantage on the many hot days of summer!! Thank you for your support and joining and we'll see you next summer! Keep your eye out for membership renewal toward the end of January 2012!!
Baja Bar & Grill - Jimmy & Bimi... Hey fellow boaters¿ It seems like we were just talking about the start of, what has been one of the best Summer and boating seasons in many years, and now it is fast coming to an end. But don't despair, because all of the action continues at the BAJA¿.
We are going to continue all of the outdoor activities in the month of September, including the Car Cruises every other Thursday night starting with the 1st and ending on the 29th. The deck bar will remain open as long as the weather cooperates, so anticipate the dance parties to continue outdoors every Friday and Saturday night. We have booked some great bands throughout the month including one of our fellow boater's band: Tom McDonald playing drums with the band Steeltown on Saturday the 17th. If you are into sports, (and who in the 'Burgh isn't?), catch all of the Pirate Baseball, Steeler Football, and of course NASCAR action in high-def right here at BAJA¿.
If you are anticipating a party, wedding or baby shower, or any type of celebration or business meeting¿ the BAJA can help you with your planning, and we offer a great venue that has an incredible view of the river. We have been getting some great, positive feedback from everyone that has chosen to do their entertaining here at BAJA.
And just a reminder, please check out our website at www.bajabargrill.com. There you will find the most current information, and your monthly calendar, for the latest information on entertainment. See you at the bar¿. Bimmy & Jimmy
Team Nutz Technology...Hi Boaters! The fall season is upon us. It's almost that time for a good end of the season cleaning inside and out before putting that boat way. Let us help you remove all the unwanted build up that is hiding in your boat. The last thing you want is to find mold in your boat in the spring. As the seasons change, it's not too early to install that remote starter you have been waiting for. It's also not too late to have your vehicle detailed or put a good wax on your vehicle before the salt and snow arrives. Team Nutz is here to get you ready for fall. (412)967-0460
"CAPTAIN BUDDY'S CORNER"... Here I am helping to sell shirts for Marina Day. I think everyone had a good time and the weather was perfect. The kids were happy with all of the contests. I lost on the nickels in a jar count but I did get a tattoo even though it was hard to see with my black fur. The pirates seemed like they came straight from a movie set and did a great job. I heard they tried to give away the "My Girl" (not happening). The pedestal jousting was great to watch and the rock wall was a hit again this year. I think fun was had by all. Thanks to everyone that helped to make this another great Fox Chapel Marina Day.
Take care, enjoy the rest of the summer and see Ya Round the River! Captain Buddy
